Alex Tran

Practicing in his 17th year, Alex leads the firm’s California Competes, CAEATFA and sales and use tax recovery practices. Alex’s passion and focus are securing high-value tax incentives and refunds for California businesses. Since 2015, he has represented over 55 clients to more than $110 million in California Competes awards.

As CALincentives’ CAEATFA practice leader, Alex recently negotiated a $20 million CAEATFA Sales and Use Tax Exclusion award, allowing his client to purchase almost $240 million of qualified property exempt from sales and use tax. Over the last 3 years, Alex has represented his clients $50+ million in CAEATFA STE awards.

Prior to CALincentives, Alex worked in the Big 4, but most recently led Moss Adams LLP’s State and Local Tax (“SALT”) practices in their Orange County and San Diego offices. In that capacity, he led a team dedicated to providing a variety of SALT value added services, including: credits and incentives; multistate income tax planning and advocacy as well as sales and use tax planning. Alex is a frequent public speaker and published author. He has spoken/published for the Institute for Professionals in Taxation, Tax Executives Institute, California Society of CPAs, Dallas CPA Society and San Diego Business Journal. Alex is a California Certified Public Accountant, holding an MST from Arizona State University and a B.S. in Accounting from California State University San Marcos.

Outside of his practice, Alex is an active member of the community. He coaches tennis and regularly volunteers at/donates to the Poway Unified School District. However, Alex’s greatest accomplishments are his five amazing children that inspire him everyday.
